Sandhill Cranes of Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Reserve
All Hallow’s Eve, 2019 - Dawn’s display of the stunning Sandhill Cranes begins.
These cranes are strong, wary and purposeful as they move through the world with grace and elegance.
Momentum builds as they slowly begin a few first flights of the day and then more and more join in, accompanied by a cacophonous and enchanting song of the ages.
In the beautiful light of nature, they rise into the sky, heading out for the day to distant fields and a banquet of foraging.
While others move into favorable take-off positions, soon to follow in the daily flights.
Late afternoon finds them returning to the shallow ponds of Bosque del Apache for another night in relatively safe surroundings, accompanied by many Snow Geese.
November 1st, 2019 - …the beat goes on… and we should all take care not to further lessen this beat of timelessness.
With an audience of Snow Geese, the day’s departures move out.
This was my first visit ever to New Mexico and to Bosque del Apache. I shall return as soon as I can.
